Ahead of 2019 general election in Nigeria the stakeholders of Anambra South Senatorial Zone have met to reinforce their earlier decision to rotate the senatorial position among the Zones in the area.
The stakeholders which met Nnewi maintained that the zoning principle which the zone adopted in sharing political positions is till in practice and will be enforced to the latter. With regards to the forthcoming elections, they emphasized that since the old Aguata block has taken their turn to represent the zone in the Senate for twelve years consecutively that it will be proper for the old Nnewi Zone to take their turn as from 2019.
In their separate speeches at the meeting; High Chief Innocent Anumba, a second Republic Politician narrated how it was agreed by all Leaders of the Senatorial district that representation of the senatorial zone will be based on old Aguata and old Nnewi slot. Chief Anumba mentioned some Elders of the State from the zone,like Late Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme(Former Vice President of Nigeria), Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Former Governor of the state), Senator Onyeabor Obi (former senator of the zone) and so many others who took that decision for equity and justice in the senatorial zone. He stated it is now the turn of old Nnewi which also comprises Ihiala and Ekwusigo axis to produce the senator for the zone.
Speaking at the meeting also, High Chief Bar. Michael Anizoka (Zokas) who is from Orumba North in the Old Aguata block maintained that the zoning formula is for equity, fairness and effective representation of the zone. He stated that the old Aguata which he come from has taken their turn and declare that the block will not support anybody who wants go against the decision of the leaders. He insisted that it is fair and just for the old Nnewi Zone to take their turn in 2019.
Hon. Sir Tony Obi, a former Sole Administrator for Ihiala Local Government and Democratically Elected Chairman for Ekwusigo Local Government said that upholding the zoning formula which the leaders adopted in their wisdom will ensure peace and brotherliness in the zone.
Other Major stakeholders from the senatorial district who spoke at the meeting agreed that the zoning arrangement should be maintained by allowing the old Nnewi Zone to produce in the senator in 2019.
Hon. Francis Omo-Okeke, former Chairman Nnewi North Local Government stated that the issue at stake is not just about zoning but about electing a credible representative for the zone. He noted the zone has been poorly represented however stated that 2019 is time to change the situation. The stakeholders eulogized Hon. Sir Azuka Okwuosa and endorsed his aspiration to represent the zone in the 9th Senate.
